Other Volunteer Opportunities

We rely on the skill and enthusiasm of volunteers to support our staff in many ways. Below are some of the opportunities available to volunteers. To learn more about these opportunities, or if you have something specific in mind you would like to volunteer, please contact our Associate Director by email or phone at 617.482.4338.

Community Outreach
Represent Hospitality Homes at community events or with community-based organizations to help increase volunteer and donor pools. Staff outreach tables, make presentations to religious and other groups, or call organizations to introduce them to Hospitality Homes. Training will be provided. Weekday, evening, and weekend opportunities.

Office Support
General office support includes filing, assistance with mailings, assembling packets for guests and hosts, and computer-based tasks. Orientation to Hospitality Homes provided. Reliability and ability to work independently on assigned tasks required.

Translate
Habla usted Español? Parlez-vous Français? We are on the lookout for people who would like to use their foreign language skills to help our staff and host families communicate with non-English speaking guests.

INTERNSHIPS
Hospitality Homes offers unpaid, semester-long internships
providing a great introduction to non-profit work in a small, supportive office environment. Interns support our staff in taking applications for housing over the phone, entering data into various databases, processing donations and acknowledgments, staffing outreach tables at local hospitals, various outreach and public relations projects, and other tasks as assigned.

We are looking for reliable and personable individuals who are comfortable with Word and Excel, and have great attention to detail. This job requires multi-tasking and multiple priorities and the ideal candidate will be flexible and able to juggle shifting tasks/priorities with minimal supervision. He or she should also be comfortable and courteous on the phone, as all applications for housing are taken on the telephone. We ask for a minimum commitment of 2 ½ to 3 months at 10-20 hours/week. Interns must be able to commute to our office in Brookline (easily accessible by public transportation).

Please note that internship starting/ending dates are flexible and we generally have openings for fall and spring semester as well as summer. For students who will be earning academic credit for internships, we are happy to tailor positions to a school's requirements. Our office is in downtown Boston, very close to Fenway Park and a few minutes’ walk from the Kenmore and Fenway Green Line T stops. The location is also served by several bus routes. Office hours are M-F, 9:00am-5:00pm.

To apply, please email your cover letter and resume to Heather Davidson, fax to 617-582-7980, or mail to Hospitality Homes, P.O. Box 15265, Boston, MA 02215. We would like to hear from you what your skills and interest areas are, and why Hospitality Homes is of interest to you. If you are specifically interested in assisting with PR and communications (including our newsletter), please include a 1-2 page writing sample.
